A message from Katie Paquin about her music "Music has always been one of my passions. I love the idea of being able to create something that is totally original and individual. "Shameful World" is a completely original work of poetry, lyrics, and music aimed to evoke emotion. Some of the lyrics are taken from personal experience, while others are completely fictional and can be interpreted however an individual wants that interpretive meaning, to fit into their life. "Shameful World" is true enough to its title , yet not its only message, as those who listen to it will no doubt soon discover. I really enjoy writing poetry and always have, and I won't say that it was particularly "easy" to begin writing lyrics. However, I can say that with the ability to know the rhythm and flow of poetry, it certainly made creating lyrics easier. Some of my new CDs lyrics may seem dark or even a bit disturbing. They reflect the title meaning "Shameful World" because often times my lyrics highlight the conditions in this world that are disgraceful. These lyrics are not directed to any particular individual but are simply contemplation's of the downfalls in this world, of which we all share a certain commonality. Being born the youngest of five children in Hilo Hawaii, has offered me a very unique heritage. My mother chose my first name Kaitlinn from a favorite name she had always loved as well as my Hawaiian middle name Noelani which means " Heavenly Beauty " . I will always feel a special connection to Hawaii. My oldest sister Erin and my niece Kerstin her daughter, live there still. I eventually moved ( the mainland ), as they say in Hawaii, when I was four years old , to the Town of Penobscot Maine . I began playing piano when I was eleven. I remember my sister, Molly Beth always playing compositions of her own and filling the house with music. I began plinking away at the piano in our home as well, creating several random small compositions . I can also clearly remember spending time after school, almost every day playing an old piano that was in a janitors closet, as I waited for my dad to come pick me up. My principal would say "he loved to hear my music filling the corridors and gym of our school making it easier for him to relax after a long day". I continued to play and as I grew older I would perform my pieces at winter concerts and gatherings at my elementary school in Penobscot. I would have to say that when people liked my music, that made it a lot more fun and rewarding to create songs. Eventually I won a local contest for one of my piano compositions called "Cloudy Day". As I continued on through elementary school and reached high school, I began writing more poetry and lyrics . At first , being somewhat self conscious, I would never sing my lyrics, I would just write them. Eventually, after being caught singing and playing piano by my other sister Emily, she as well as my brother Jesse encouraged me to record my music. So with the help of my father, my producer John Dyer, and other musicians, I was able to create "Shameful World". I hope that this CD offers a message to you in your own personal way, and that you enjoy the content therein. Sincerely Katie Paquin Noelani Records HOME |
